This is an original early 1960s Adler Tippa manual portable typewriter, made in West Germany by Adlerwerke vorm. Heinrich Kleyer A.G., Frankfurt. Finished in two-tone grey and cream, this compact machine features the “Perl” typeface (Pica 10 cpi) and a working dual-colour ribbon for red and black typing. It comes with its matching carry case, original instruction booklet, factory “Schreibkontrolle” test sheet, and rare Sigel moisture-absorbing bag still intact. Mechanically sound with clear, even type alignment, smooth carriage action, and responsive keys. The black portion of the ribbon is a little faint and may benefit from replacement. A beautifully preserved and fully functional mid-century writing instrument from the golden age of German engineering.

Detailed step-by-step (for the new owner):

1. Place the typewriter on a stable surface with the front facing you.

2. Open the case lid and lift the paper bail so you can see the right carriage arm and platen knob.

3. Locate the tiny metal carriage lock lever tucked under the right carriage arm (just behind the right platen knob). It’s small — you may need to feel for it with your fingertip.

4. Press the lever toward the rear of the machine (away from you) — hold it down.

5. While holding the lever, gently push the carriage to the left by hand (or press the spacebar once) until it moves freely. Release the lever — the carriage should now operate normally.
